THIS EVENT IS HAPPENING TONIGHT!
For those of you in Maryland, it has stopped snowing and roads are fine – see you there!
We are pleased to announce a very special conversation with Wolf Dunaway (of PBS’s Neurotypical documentary – and out of respect for our friend, Paula Durbin Westby, also please read what she has to say on being featured in this film) and Sunny Cefaratti (renowned Musical Autist Co-Director) on the topic of Empowering our Youth into Adulthood on Autism’s Spectrum, Saturday, February 15th, in Millersville, MD. (please see digital flyer below for more info, feel free to print and share) Having two fabulous ASD self-advocates together sharing their stories is something we feel very passionate about, as there is so much dissent in the public face of the autism community.
Both of these adults have something the ASD and autism support communities desperately need: a story they are willing to share. Gathering to share what has been meaningful – from parents trying to support their children to individuals on the spectrum striving to live their own lives – is how we define a place together to encourage and support each other.
ASD adults represent the positive role model that parents and the community so desperately need – showing us how to frame our immediate challenges within a long-term picture. The point of having a conversation between the support and ASD communities is to affirm the challenges while recognizing the beauty and dignity of the ASD population; connecting person-by-person!
Let’s encourage the ASD community and the ASD support community to create forums like this to raise up their voices; to speak out about their successes, hopes, and, even their losses; gathering together to share what we truly own – our story – in order to validate the challenges and hopes of lives that do not conform, but flourish nonetheless!
