Usually I want my readers to click-play-to-start, to get the full effect of what we want to share. Not so much today…. :-]
Because I’m really putting myself out there, musically, and I got this done today in a time crunch.. thought of it this morning….wanted to post it today for Mother’s Day..
Be that as it may…..this is the first GarageBand-iPad2-SoundCloud upload!
Why am I doing this?
Simply because I wouldn’t expect my students to do something I’m not willing to do myself.
So I thought I’d take the opportunity to do something really special for my mom on Mother’s Day. (p.s. she loves it so that’s all I need to know. Every other person on the planet’s opinion is an anthill to me….compared to my moms opinion.)
Song for Ms.CJ’s Mom. by TheMusicalAutist
This was my first shot at teaching myself how to use GarageBand (I’ve still never used it on the cpu – I’m classically trained remember – I never had the motivation to learn it, until Musical Autists started coming into my life. 🙂
Anyways, this was just 3 tracks, acoustic grand piano, vocals, each thru the iPad microphone, and then the drum track which I mixed up myself – it was easy and fun enough to really help me overcome my super-criticalness of myself and the frustration of an upteenth number of retakes.
I wrote the song for my mom when she got remarried in 2003, to one of the most awesome, loving, kind and humble men I’ve ever met – Greg. I performed it in their wedding. Then I pulled it back out in 2007 for her 60th birthday. I held my piano students’ spring recital that day, in her honor. I switched a few words to make it exclusively for her birthday (the version you hear now) and surprise performed it for her at the recital.
Four years later, yet again, now the song will take on some permanence. I plan on learning how to negotiate GarageBand/iPad2/Soundcloud with this and a few other little songs I wrote.
Why?
Because, I expect my students to do the same thing with their own songs!
Lyrics:
vs.1
I’ve been watchin’ you all of my life/ watchin’ the way that you love
You’ve never been afraid to keep on giving/ the love of Jesus has kept you singing
chorus:
I’ve been watchin’ the way that you love/ this gift you’ve given me shows the God above
vs2.
Ever since I was a child/ you’ve shown me a simple smile
Pours out God’s love and peace/ on everyone you meet
And your love for me has revealed the heart of Christ
Always ready to welcome home the child that was lost
vs.3
You’ve given me a legacy/ to teach others to be set free
You taught me how to love and hope/ and the skill to watch peace grow
Even through the hard times you always stayed by my side
You never gave up on me/ you saw what I could not see/ you saw what I could not see…….
